Ho – 24^th July 2023

A state-of-the-art medical waste treatment plant was commissioned at Akrofu Agorve in the Ho Municipality on Friday 21^st July 2023.

Addressing participants, the Deputy Minister of Health, Mahama Asei Seini, asserted that the facility will effectively address public health concerns in the Volta region. The Minister highlighted the potential health hazards posed by improper medical waste management, such as incineration, landfill disposal, and reusing of medical waste. He emphasized that the advanced Microwave Treatment Equipment (Ecosteryl) installed at the facility will ensure the safe treatment of hazardous waste, safeguarding public health.

With a daily treatment capacity of 5,000Kg (5 tons) of hazardous waste, the facility is expected to create around 200 direct and indirect job opportunities for residents in the region. Praising the support of President Akufo-Addo in enabling private sector development, the Executive Director of the Jospong Group of Companies (Environment and Sanitation Cluster), Mr. Said Haidar, emphasized the company’s commitment to providing public health services, including mosquito population control and Covid-19 disinfection.

According to Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa, the Volta Regional Minister, the newly commissioned facility will cater for health facilities in the region and its surroundings, contributing to minimizing health risks and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals on health and well-being.

The Municipal Chief Executive for Ho, Hon. Divine R.K. Bosson indicated that the facility would go a long way to support the “Oxygen City” project being undertaken by the Municipal Assembly.

The Paramount Queen Mother of Akrofu Traditional Area, Mamaga Akua Sebea Nyabor VII, expressed her gratitude to the Jospong Group of Companies and President Akufo-Addo for bringing the medical waste treatment facility to her community. However, she made an appeal to the government to construct the road leading to the facility to facilitate its accessibility and usage.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ho, Honorable Divine R.K. Bosson, called for collaborative action between all stakeholders in empowering girls as a way of curbing violence against them. He made the call during a Gender Equality Project Launch organized by the E.P. Church Ghana as a special guest. He emphasized the importance of promoting gender equality and combating harmful practices against girls, such as child marriages and female genital mutilation. The MCE recognized the role of education in empowering girls and urged collaborative efforts from the government, civil society, and individuals. He highlighted the relevance of Sustainable Development Goal 5 which calls for Gender Equality and serves as our guiding framework in striving for a world where women and girls have equal rights and opportunities. Additionally, SDG 10, which emphasizes Reduced Inequalities, reinforces the need to address gender disparities and discrimination in all its forms.

The Regional Director of Gender, representatives from the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), and officials from the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) jointly called for the strengthening of the legal frameworks relevant for the protection of vulnerable girls.

Ho, 18^th July 2023 – In a demonstration of solidarity and support, the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Lu Kun, visited Ho in the aftermath of the recent floods to offer assistance to the affected residents. Accompanied by a team of Chinese medical officers, the ambassador led the initiative to conduct a comprehensive health screening for the flood victims. The medical team was headed by Dr. Du Yushan, a highly skilled and experienced physician.

The screening which took on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at the forecourt of the Asogli Palace, saw about 70 individuals participate.

The Ho community extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Chinese Ambassador, His Excellency Lu Kun, and the entire medical team for their selfless dedication and efforts in providing essential services to the community.

Ho, 18^th July 2023 – In the wake of the recent devastating floods that wreaked havoc in Ho, a delegation from the Volta Development Forum (VDF) paid a courtesy call on the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ho, Honorable Divine Richard Komla Bosson, on Monday, July 17, 2023. The delegation, led by Honorable Francis Komla Ganyaglo, a former Deputy Volta Regional Minister, conducted a thorough tour of the areas affected by the floods to assess the situation firsthand.

During the meeting, Honorable Francis Komla Ganyaglo stressed the importance of political actors and stakeholders setting aside partisan politics when it comes to addressing the developmental challenges faced by the Volta region. The floods have served as a stark reminder that natural disasters do not discriminate based on political affiliations. He emphasized the need for unity and collaborative efforts to find lasting solutions to the recurrent flooding issue and the development of the Volta region at large.

Honorable Divine Richard Komla Bosson, in response, informed the delegation about the Asogli State Environmental Sustainability Fund, which was established by the Overlord of Asogli, Togbe Afede XIV. The fund, with a seed capital of GH¢150,000.00, donated by the Sunon Asogli Power Plant, aims to tackle the issue of storm drains within the Ho township and prevent future occurrences. The MCE called upon all stakeholders, including the Volta Development Forum, to join hands and contribute generously to the fund to ensure the success of these vital initiatives.

The delegation acknowledged the significance of the Asogli State Environmental Sustainability Fund and expressed their commitment to supporting its objectives. They recognized that finding a lasting solution to the challenges faced by Ho and the Volta region as a whole requires collective action and a shared vision of progress and development.

The meeting concluded with a renewed sense of unity and purpose among the participants, as they recognized the importance of transcending political boundaries and prioritizing the well-being and development of the Volta region. The collaborative efforts of various stakeholders, including the Volta Development Forum, will undoubtedly contribute to finding lasting solutions and building a resilient future for the people of Ho and the wider Volta region.

Ho, 15^th July 2023-  The devastating floods that occurred on Saturday, March 8, 2023, in the Ho Township left a trail of destruction, affecting properties, houses, bridges/culverts, roads, and shops. Responding to the aftermath of the floods, the Overlord of Asogli State, Togbe Afede XIV, accompanied by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ho, Hon. Richard Divine Komla Bosson, Chairman of Sunon Asogli Power Plant Mr. Qun Yang, and Traditional Authorities, conducted a tour of the affected areas on Saturday, July 15, 2023.

Following the tour, a durbar of Chiefs and people was held to announce the establishment of the “Asogli State Environmental Sustainability Fund” by Togbe Afede XIV, Agbogbomefia of Asogli State. The fund aims to mobilize resources to address the challenges posed by flooding and promote long-term environmental sustainability in the Ho Municipality. Togbe Afede expressed his gratitude to the Almighty for protecting the lives of his subjects and emphasized the need for a collective response to the flood situation.

He noted that the flood serves as a wake-up call, urging the community to respond appropriately and work towards finding lasting solutions. He called upon the people of the municipality to rally behind the MCE, acknowledging his commitment to the development of the municipality. Togbe Afede’s leadership and swift response demonstrated his dedication to the well-being of the community.

In his welcome address, Hon. Divine R.K. Bosson expressed deep appreciation to Togbe Afede for his swift response to the plight of the people. He urged citizens, non-profit organizations, philanthropists, and members of the diaspora to contribute to the fund, emphasizing the importance of finding sustainable solutions to prevent future flooding incidents.

Recognizing the importance of public-private partnerships, Mr. Qun Yang, Chairman of Sunon Asogli Power Plant, donated 800 bags of rice, 800 bottles of cooking oil, and a seed capital of GHC 150,000.00 to the fund.  The contributions and support from various stakeholders will be instrumental in finding sustainable solutions and creating a safer and more sustainable community.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ho, Honorable Divine R.K. Bosson, undertook a visit today to areas affected by the recent heavy downpour that caused severe flooding in the municipality. The visit aimed to assess the extent of the damage, console the victims, and discuss crucial measures to address the recurring issue. Addressing the media after the tour, Hon. Bosson expressed his deep condolences to the victims of the flooding and emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to find sustainable solutions. He stressed the significance of acquiring permits before constructing buildings, emphasizing that, proper planning and adherence to regulations can mitigate the impact of such natural disasters.

Furthermore, the MCE called on the Environmental Health Unit to enforce the sanitation bye-laws of the assembly. He emphasized the importance of maintaining clean and hygienic surroundings to prevent the outbreak of diseases and ensure the overall well-being of the community.

Hon. Bosson extended his profound gratitude to the overlord of the Asogli State, Togbe Afede XIV, for his keen interest in finding lasting solutions to the recurrent flooding problem. He acknowledged the ongoing efforts to design and implement a storm drain action plan, which would significantly contribute to reducing the impact of heavy rains and subsequent flooding.

Madam Ivy Amewugah, the Regional Director of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), also accompanied the MCE during the tour. She reassured the flood victims of the government’s unwavering support during these challenging times. Also present during the tour includes Mr. Stephen Adigon, the Municipal Director of NADMO, Madam Florence Sunu, Deputy Municipal Environmental Health Officer, and several assembly members from the Ho Municipality, including Hon. Isaac Amenyo, Hon. Patrick Larry Stone, Hon. Sefadzi Agama, and Hon. Charles Legbedze.

The visit not only allowed the MCE to witness firsthand the devastation caused by the flooding but also provided an opportunity for stakeholders to discuss and strategize for long-term solutions. The collective efforts and commitment demonstrated by government officials, the community, and various organizations signify a united front in tackling the challenges posed by recurrent floods in the region.

As the government and stakeholders work together to implement comprehensive measures, the MCE encouraged all residents to remain vigilant, adhere to safety guidelines, and cooperate with the authorities. By fostering a spirit of collaboration, resilience, and preparedness, the community can collectively overcome the effects of the recent flooding and build a more resilient future.

Ho Municipal Assembly.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ho, Honorable Divine Richard Komla Bosson, on behalf of government presented 20 dual desks each to St. Cecilia Catholic School, Akoefe Tokor and Avenui Basic Schools all within the Ho Municipality on Thursday 15th June 2023.
Interacting with teachers of the beneficiary schools, Hon. Divine Bosson emphasized the importance of discipline in the academic journey of students. He highlighted the role that discipline plays in shaping character, promoting academic excellence, and preparing young minds for future success. The MCE encouraged the students to embrace discipline as a valuable attribute that would serve them well throughout their lives.

According to the MCE other schools ar going to benefit from the ongoing distribution in the days to come. Hon. Bosson also hinted that the assembly is in the process of procuring about 1000 desks for distribution to schools within the municipality to augment that of the central government.
The Head teachers of the beneficiary schools, expressed deep gratitude to government and the assembly for the items acknowledging the positive impact the desks would have on the students’ learning experience and comfort. They highlighted the significance of the donation in addressing the seating challenges faced by the students, ultimately enhancing their focus and concentration in the classroom.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ho, Honorable Divine R.K. Bosson on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 attended a workshop organized by the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralization at the Municipal Assembly hall. The workshop was aimed at encouraging the youth, physically challenged individuals, and women to actively participate in the upcoming district assembly and unit committee elections. Addressing participants, Hon. Bosson, stressed the need for diverse voices and perspectives in local governance. He also emphasized the need for equal opportunities and representation, urging the participants to step forward and make a difference in their communities.

Earlier on, the MCE attended another impactful program organized by MTN Ghana dubbed “Yellow Care.” aimed at networking and connecting the youth with businesses, fostering collaboration and creating opportunities for entrepreneurship and professional growth. The MCE engaged the young entrepreneurs in interactive discussions and shared insights on the importance of perseverance, innovation, and seizing opportunities.
Participants from both workshops expressed their gratitude to the organizers for their support and encouragement.

Ho – Volta Region Ghana – May 20, 2023
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ho, Hon. Divine Richard Komla Bosson, donated 200 energy-saving bulbs and 40 lamp holders to OLA Girls Senior High School in Ho. The donation was made in response to an appeal from the school authorities during their 69th Speech and Prize-Giving Day held on Saturday 20th May 2023. The MCE personally oversaw the installation of the electrical items, emphasizing his commitment to providing a conducive learning environment. The energy-saving bulbs contribute to energy efficiency and cost savings while improving visibility for teaching and learning.

The MCE advised the students to be proactive in giving back to their communities. He encouraged them to use their education and skills to make positive contributions to society, emphasizing the importance of being responsible and compassionate citizens.
The Headmistress of the School Mad. Benedicta Agbezudor, expressed deep gratitude for the donation, recognizing its significance in enhancing teaching and learning.
