Ho Township Floods: Togbe Afede Launches Environmental Sustainability Fund.
Ho, 15th July 2023- The devastating floods that occurred on Saturday, March 8, 2023, in the Ho Township left a trail of destruction, affecting properties, houses, bridges/culverts, roads, and shops. Responding to the aftermath of the floods, the Overlord of Asogli State, Togbe Afede XIV, accompanied by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ho, Hon. Richard Divine Komla Bosson, Chairman of Sunon Asogli Power Plant Mr. Qun Yang, and Traditional Authorities, conducted a tour of the affected areas on Saturday, July 15, 2023.
Following the tour, a durbar of Chiefs and people was held to announce the establishment of the “Asogli State Environmental Sustainability Fund” by Togbe Afede XIV, Agbogbomefia of Asogli State. The fund aims to mobilize resources to address the challenges posed by flooding and promote long-term environmental sustainability in the Ho Municipality. Togbe Afede expressed his gratitude to the Almighty for protecting the lives of his subjects and emphasized the need for a collective response to the flood situation.
He noted that the flood serves as a wake-up call, urging the community to respond appropriately and work towards finding lasting solutions. He called upon the people of the municipality to rally behind the MCE, acknowledging his commitment to the development of the municipality. Togbe Afede’s leadership and swift response demonstrated his dedication to the well-being of the community.
In his welcome address, Hon. Divine R.K. Bosson expressed deep appreciation to Togbe Afede for his swift response to the plight of the people. He urged citizens, non-profit organizations, philanthropists, and members of the diaspora to contribute to the fund, emphasizing the importance of finding sustainable solutions to prevent future flooding incidents.
Recognizing the importance of public-private partnerships, Mr. Qun Yang, Chairman of Sunon Asogli Power Plant, donated 800 bags of rice, 800 bottles of cooking oil, and a seed capital of GHC 150,000.00 to the fund. The contributions and support from various stakeholders will be instrumental in finding sustainable solutions and creating a safer and more sustainable community.
