GHANA NATIONAL HOUSEHOLD REGISTRY EXERCISE IN HO MUNICIPAL

The GNHR aims to identify the poor and vulnerable, and most social protection programmes use a targeting method. Effective targeting of the poor and vulnerable is, therefore, a prerequisite for an efficient social protection system. It ensures that a larger share of benefits of social programmes go to the poorest and the most vulnerable in society.

The numerous social protection programmes currently being implemented in Ghana employ variety of methods to target the poor and vulnerable. These methods include poverty/ geographical ranking, Proxy Means Testing (PMT), categorical and community based targeting. In an attempt to streamline the targeting system in the country, the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) received funding from the World Bank to establish the Ghana National Household Registry (GNHR) to provide a common targeting mechanism that can assist social protection programmes identify, prioritize, and select households living in vulnerable conditions to ensure that different social programmes effectively reach them.

The GNHR involves registering of households and collecting basic information on their socioeconomic status by administering a data intake questionnaire to each household. Since its establishment in August 2016, the GNHR project unit has put in place systems and delivery mechanisms that ensured the successful implementation of the project in the Upper West,Upper East, Northern, savannah and North East Regions of Ghana..

The registry has also successfully established the necessary institutional systems and policy regimes that can be leveraged on to scale up the project across the country.Data collection activities are currently ongoing in the Central, Volta and Oti Regions.

HO MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY BEGINS CITIZENS-GENERATED DATA COLLECTION PROJECT.

The Ho Municipal Assembly, in collaboration with the Ghana Statistical Service as part of a nationwide program, launched a “Citizens Generated Data Project” on Thursday 11th May 2023. The Citizens Generated Data Collection exists to complement the census data. It is called “Citizens Generated Data” because, unlike the census where enumerators are deployed across town, the citizens generate the data themselves using their phones with the aid of mobile Apps or short codes. The project is focused on:

  1. Waste Management: where citizens can take pictures and report on uncollected garbage for action to be taken. Be it household or communal waste.
  2. Gender-Based Violence: where citizens who face or suffer any form of Gender-Based Violence would have the opportunity to report using their phones.

The general public is hereby entreated to visit the “Play Store” and download.

  1. “Let’s Talk” App – for Gender-Based Violence and
  2. “CleanApp Ghana” App – for Solid Waste.

Those without Android phones can use the following short codes. *800*818# for reporting Gender-Based Violence and *920*58# for reporting on solid waste, to enable us all to contribute to a clean municipality that is also free of gender-based violence.

Classroom Block for Ziavi Lume.

The Hon. MP for Ho Central, Benjamin Kpodo invited me to join him to commission a new 3 Unit Classroom Block for Ziavi Lume E. P Primary School earlier today.

The project was funded by the MP’s Common Fund and his personal resources.

We dedicated the facility to the glory of God and asked that the community takes good care of it.

I was accompanied by the Hon. Presiding Member, Mawugbe Agbe, and joined by the Paramount Chief of Ziavi Traditional Area, Togbe Koku Ayim III, Hon. Assembly Member for Ziavi Electoral Area, Mad. Gloria Agbesi, Municipal Director of Education, Mr. Godwin Amelor, parents, and teachers to commission the facility.

Together we shall bring development to our people.

HO MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY LAUNCHED CITIZENS GENERATED DATA PROJECT .

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ho Hon. Richard Divine Komla Bosson on 11th May 2023 launched the scale-up phase of the Citizens Generated Data Project at the Municipal Assembly Hall in Ho.
Addressing participants, the MCE stated that citizen-generated data is a powerful tool that can be used to empower individuals, communities, and governments to identify and address pressing issues. “We can better understand the challenges we face as an Assembly and develop targeted interventions to address them through this project.”

According to him, the project is in line with Agenda 5 and 13 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) “Gender Equality and “Climate Action” respectively.

The project is a partnership between the Ho Municipal Assembly, German Development Cooperation (GIZ), and the Ghana Statistical Service.

The Volta Regional Statistician, Mr. Chris Amewu said the Citizens Generated Data is there to fill in the missing gaps during census data collection. He mentioned that with the two mobile applications (Clean App Ghana and Let’s Talk Ghana App) citizens in the comfort of their homes can report on gender-based violence and waste management-related issues. This project the statistician iterated will give the citizens the voice to report directly issues that affect them and help them participate in decision-making.

Madam Thywill Ekpe, Regional Director of the Department of Gender in her remarks noted that the launch of this App is a welcoming news to her department and a great feet chalked.

The Chairman for the occasion, Togbui Kotoku XI who is also the Paramount Chief of the Kpenoe traditional area asked citizens within the municipality to embrace the project to help generate the necessary data relevant for decision-making.

The Ho Airport will soon be opened for commercial flights

This follows the successful landing of the African World Airline at the Airport on Thursday 15th April 2021. The aircraft which was on a commercial test flight from the Kotoka International Airport had on board the Co-founder of African World Airline, Togbe Afede XIV who is also the Agbogbomefia, top officials of Ghana Airport Company Limited (GACL), and the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority on board.
 
At a colorful ceremony to welcome the flight, the Hon. The Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa, expressed excitement at the arrival of the flight and said it is an indication that the Airport facility is ready for operation. He expressed optimism that the airport will soon be open to airlines from Accra, Lome, Tamale, and London alike and also optimistic the airport will open up the Region to more economic activities. Dr. Letsa urged the general public to patronize the services of the Africa World Airline to ensure multiple operations.
 
 
The Agbogbomefia of the Asogli Traditional Council, Togbe Afede XIV described the day as memorable and a dream come true for the people of the Volta Region. He expressed appreciation to former President His Excellency John Dramani Mahama for his foresight in sitting at the Airport in Ho and, to the current governments for their support in making this a reality. 
 
Togbe Afede described the Ho Airport facility as a sub-regional asset and said the benefits to be accrued cannot be overemphasized. He said the facility served as a source of employment and a platform for tourism both in the country and Ho at large.
 
 
He noted that beyond commercial operations, management is planning to embark on other projects like pilot training and aircraft maintenance which will enhance the economic viability of the airport facility.
 
The Deputy Technical Director of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority Mr. Daniel Acquah indicated that the Ghana Civil Aviation in collaboration with the Ghana Airport Company and other agencies as well as Africa World Airline are working effortlessly to put in place traffic regulatory facilities for the full operation of the Airport, for the development of tourism for Ho and the country at large. 
 
 
He also stressed the need for the people of the region to patronize the facility to make it sustainable. Mr. Acquah said the test flight would allow the airline operator, the Ghana Airport Company Limited and managers of the airport to undertake the final preparations towards actual commercial flights.
 
Other dignitaries present at the ceremony were, Hon. Prosper Kofi Pi-Bansah, Municipal Chief Executive for Ho, Togbe Anikpi III, Chief of Ho Heve, Togbe Kasa III, Chief of Ho Ahoe, Togbe Adzi-Lakle Howusu, Chief of Ho Dome, heads of the various security agencies and a cross-section of the general public.

Ho municipal assembly hands over classroom blocks to school authorities

The Ho Municipal Chief Executive, Hon Prosper Kofi Pi-Bansah has commissioned six classroom blocks across the municipality between Tuesday 22nd to Thursday 25th of February 2021.
Addressing separate ceremonies to commission the projects the MCE advised school management committees to make good use of the facilities in order to enhance quality education.
He noted that the government has invested so much to ensure every child attends Senior High School in Ghana, the onus he said lies on them to utilize the opportunity.
 
Hon. Pi-Bansah said the Assembly has a responsibility to provide a comfortable teaching and learning environment for the students, therefore the need for the construction of the classroom blocks.
 
Mr. Raphael Amenyo, the Municipal Director of education, urged the various communities to extend a hand of friendship to Teachers posted to them, so as to curb the syndrome of Teachers refusing postings to some parts of the country.

Ho MCE inspects development projects

The Municipal Chief Executive for Ho, Hon Prosper Kofi Pi-Bansah has visited some project sites within his municipality. They include both solid and liquid waste treatment plants located at Akrofu Agorve and an abattoir located at Sokode Etoe.
According to him, when completed the two projects would provide employment opportunities to the youth and also boost agro production in the country.
The abattoir on the other hand is set to start operating on the 6th of March 2021. He called on the people within the municipality to debunk allegations of the facility being used as a Church.

Planting for food and jobs helped me to become best farmer – Pastor claims

A Forty-Six (46) years old Pastor, Robert Morkporkpor with the Royal House Chapel from Hodzo – Aviefe has emerged the best farmer at the just ended 36th Municipal farmers day which was celebrated at Lume – Ge in the Ho Municipality on Friday 6th November,2020.
With a total land size of 146 acres, he currently owns 91 acres of maize, 41 acres of oil palm, 10 acres of orange, 11 acres of agroforestry, 120 goats, 61 local fowls, 35 guinea fowls among others.
According to him, the “Planting for Food and Jobs” programme which was introduced by government in the year 2017 has made it possible for him to increase production and also gain high yields which enabled him acquire a corn mill, cassava grater, and an Opel Cadet to enhance his work.

Delivering a keynote address on the theme: “Ensuring Agri-Business Development Under COVID-19 – Opportunities and Challenges”, the Municipal Chief Executive for Ho, Hon. Prosper Kofi Pi-Bansah express his gratitude to farmers for their immense contributions towards food security especially during this era of COVID-19.
He called land owners to continually donate farmlands for the “Planting for Food and Jobs” flagship programme.

Hon. Pi-Bansah further urged citizens to take advantage of other modules of the programme such as “Planting for Export and Rural Development”. He congratulated Mr. Benjamin Kemetse from the Ho municipality for picking the best maize farmer award at the national level.
The Municipal Director of Agriculture Mrs. Esenam Elewokor advised farmers to always seek and heed the advice of extension officers since awards are given based on set-up criteria and adherence to good agricultural practices brought to them by officers.
She bemoaned the indiscriminate use of pesticides especially by vegetable farmers since it can result in chemical poisoning.

According to her, a total number of about 4,733 farmers benefited from agro-inputs such as subsidized solid and liquid fertilizers, certified seeds and cockerels, under the government’s agricultural flagship programmes.
In his welcome address, the Paramount Chief of Agogoe Lume Traditional area, Togbe Tenu called on the Ghana Export Promotion Council and other related agencies under the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to do more in providing technical support to the local farmers because they lack the necessary expertise to brand their products for the international market in order to obtain the maximum benefit.

Hon. Benjamin Kpodo, MP. for Ho Central said that “the polling Station duty is not for national security, therefore the police have the right to send them away from the polling stations”.
The Chairman for the occasion, His Lordship Justice Dzamafe of the Appeals Court of Ghana appealed to Ghanaians to always be punctual at public functions since time is of essence to our national development.
Other notable personalities at the programme include Mr Peter Kwesi Thompson, the Municipal Coordinating Director of the Ho Municipal Assembly, Hon. Jonny Akpakli-Presiding member and some members of the Regional/Municipal Security Council.
