
HO MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY LAUNCHED CITIZENS GENERATED DATA PROJECT .
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ho Hon. Richard Divine Komla Bosson on 11th May 2023 launched the scale-up phase of the Citizens Generated Data Project at the Municipal Assembly Hall in Ho.
Addressing participants, the MCE stated that citizen-generated data is a powerful tool that can be used to empower individuals, communities, and governments to identify and address pressing issues. “We can better understand the challenges we face as an Assembly and develop targeted interventions to address them through this project.”
According to him, the project is in line with Agenda 5 and 13 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) “Gender Equality and “Climate Action” respectively.
The project is a partnership between the Ho Municipal Assembly, German Development Cooperation (GIZ), and the Ghana Statistical Service.
The Volta Regional Statistician, Mr. Chris Amewu said the Citizens Generated Data is there to fill in the missing gaps during census data collection. He mentioned that with the two mobile applications (Clean App Ghana and Let’s Talk Ghana App) citizens in the comfort of their homes can report on gender-based violence and waste management-related issues. This project the statistician iterated will give the citizens the voice to report directly issues that affect them and help them participate in decision-making.
Madam Thywill Ekpe, Regional Director of the Department of Gender in her remarks noted that the launch of this App is a welcoming news to her department and a great feet chalked.
The Chairman for the occasion, Togbui Kotoku XI who is also the Paramount Chief of the Kpenoe traditional area asked citizens within the municipality to embrace the project to help generate the necessary data relevant for decision-making.
